The physio pads is designed to conform to the horses back, allowing for ideal pressure absorption and distribution. The pad was specifically developed for the demands during long rides, for heavier riders, and also for horses with protruding spinous processes. The added channel in the pad ensures clearance over the area of the thoracic vertebrae and minimizes any pressure in that area.

The pad consists of 2 pressure absorbing components that are connected securely with Velcro:

  1. Bottom layer: Anatomically shaped quilted cotton, thinned under the upper thigh for a close leg contact, complete with pockets for easy removal of the pressure absorbing foam inserts (shims). Two-thirds of the underside is made of sympanova material to ensure a non-slip fit even on very round horses, the remaining one-third  in the rear is lined with pure wool to reduce rubbing and hair breaking.
  2. Top layer: Quilted cotton with felt on the underside, sympanova on the top to help keep the saddle in position, and a foam layer sandwiched between both to offer additional pressure absorption. Velcro straps attach to the saddle’s D-rings.

The pad is machine washable (gentle cycle) at 30 degrees Celsius, preferably with wool detergent and should be dried flat. Just remove the foam inserts, wash, and hang dry. Each saddle model has its own contoured pad available in brown and black and comes with an additional pair of 15 mm dense foam shims.

    • Anatomically cut
    • Offers spinal clearance even for sensitive horses with visible spinal processes
    • Ideal or short backed horses due to the use of soft wool in the rear part of the pad
    • Excellent to use on horses with problematic backs thanks to the additional shims
    • Well cushioned also for heavier riders
    • Non-slip
    • 100% sheep-wool

When do I need to add additional shims?

With some horses it is necessary to add extra padding in certain areas of the saddle pad; horses with very wide shoulders benefit by adding shims in the back part of the pad to lift the saddle in that area; horses with over developed hind ends need more padding in the front part of the pad to raise the saddle up in the front.
