Trial Period


When you purchase a saddle from Grey Havens Acres we want to ensure that you and your horse are comfortable in your new saddle. By taking advantage of our trial period you can return the saddle after one week (7 days) – if you follow the specific instructions below. If no notice has been received by the 7th day of a trial purchase the saddle will be considered sold and will no longer be returnable. This allows us to replenish our stock saddles in a timely manner, so that we continue to offer a prompt trial and fitting service for our customers.


  • During the ‘testing’ period, please treat the saddle carefully. You cannot ride extensively in the saddle. Keep it clean. Leave all tags on the saddle!
  • Use your own saddle pad and girth/cinch to see how the saddle fits your horse. You are not able to return a used saddle pad and girth/cinch!
  • For fitting purposes only, you can place a thin blanket or sheet under the new saddle pad to protect it from any debris (dirt or hair). Keep in mind that this might influence the non-slip performance of the pad.
  • Take your time to get it settled, girth it up and assess whether it fits. You can sit and gently ride in the saddle in a controlled area to get a feel for it. Do not go on a trail ride.
  • Protect the stirrup leathers and fenders with tube socks, halter fleece covers, or wrap polo bandages around them to avoid any marks and rubs on the saddle. Do not pull the stirrups/buckles up after a ride. Wear soft pants or breeches. Half chaps, full chaps, tall boots, jeans with seams, bling, and pockets will scratch and leave marks on the saddle. If you mark up the saddle, you cannot return it.
  • Re-tighten your girth/cinch before and use a mounting block for mounting. Do not oil saddle or pre-bend fenders before you are sure you will keep it.

REMEMBER, any Barefoot saddle usually fits because it adapts to you and the horse unlike a conventional treed saddle that rarely ever fits both. Consequently, there is a very good chance that you will be very happy with your saddle. However, if for any reason you decide to return the saddle, please ensure you read and follow the return procedures explained below. Note that a $75 Saddle Demo Fee will be charged  for any saddle return, unless it is an exchange.

Special Order Saddles

For customers who know the model and size they want, some saddles may be ordered by us and made with options to their specifications directly from Barefoot in Germany. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of our Canadian stock and comprehensive trial program to ensure they have chosen the best size and model for horse and rider. Since each special order saddle is ordered above and beyond our basic stock and to the customer’s specific request, special orders are not returnable. However, they will still fall under our comprehensive 6 month warranty.  Barefoot is always prompt to repair or replace any warranty issue that comes up, but with their excellent work, such issues are rare.


Accessories that are ordered as part of a saddle trial are returnable up to the 7th day, just like our stock saddles, unless otherwise specified.  Like our saddles they may be tried, as long as they are returned clean, tags attached, and show no signs of use.


All products (except saddle pads showing any signs of use or wear, and product care items) may be returned within 7 days of you receiving the goods. Please contact us first to receive a return authorization number – no refund will be given without this number!

All items must be send back to us in the original box, all tags attached, with Canada Post’s regular parcel service, at the buyer’s expense. Returned items that are lost or damaged in shipping and were not insured by the buyer are the buyer’s responsibility and no refund will be made.


Dirty items: A 15% restocking and cleaning fee applies to all items returned with any signs of dirt, hair, etc.

Damaged items: Should the saddle and/or accessories be returned damaged or in a condition where it is impossible to sell as new we reserve the right to refuse to refund your purchase.

Upon your parcel’s arrival we will credit your Visa or MasterCard, or issue you a cheque for the original invoice amount, minus the non-refundable shipping and handling charges, and demo fee where applicable.

Warranty Disclaimer & Liability Limitations

We offer a one year warranty on all Barefoot saddles. Damage resulting from misuse or neglect, and expected wear and tear of the product is not covered under this warranty. Cosmetic changes to colour or texture of leather are considered normal and are not covered under this warranty. No additional warranties apply or are implied. The warranty is limited to accepting the return of the damaged saddle, and refunding of the original price paid for the saddle or accessories. Proof of purchase and date will be required.

Horseback riding is a potentially hazardous activity, and Grey Havens Acres and/or Barefoot are in no way responsible for any accidents occurring during riding.

We always recommend you wear an approved helmet, vest, and proper footwear whenever you ride a horse.

Always safety inspect your tack for damage and faulty stitching prior to each and every use as all leather products and tack will wear over time. Leather is a natural product and therefore will vary in strength and durability.

We do not intend to diagnose, treat or cure any medical conditions of your horse. Consult with your vet if you have any concerns about existing damages to your horses back.

Since all equestrian activity is potentially dangerous, Grey Havens Acres is not liable for any direct, indirect, punitive, incidental, special, consequential damages, or any damages whatsoever arising out of or connected with the use of misuse of its products(s).

Grey Havens Acres makes no claim regarding the adequacy or reliability of any product or descriptions within this website or any other materials, communications, email, brochures and advertisements. Products are used at the purchaser’s risk.

Neither the seller nor the manufacturer shall be liable for any injury, loss or damage, direct or consequential, arising out of the use or inability to use the product. Before the user uses the product the user must determine the suitability of the product for his or her intended use, and assumes all risk and liability whatsoever in connection therewith. Serious injuries, including paralysis and death, may occur as a result of using and or misuse of this product.

Barefoot products are patented. All photographs, illustrations and associated text on this website are the property of the company Barefoot and Sabine Ullmann, Brentanostrasse 27, 69434 Hirschhorn, Germany. Unauthorized use and reproduction of such for commercial and trading purposes in any medium is prohibited. All violations of the terms of this notice will result in legal action.

We reserve the right to change any prices, terms and conditions at any time. Errors in description and pricing may occur. In the event of a pricing error, the item(s) in question will be charged at correct price.

Any dispute shall be litigated in the court closest to the seller, Grey Havens Acres.

If any part of this agreement is determined to be void, invalid, unenforceable or illegal, including, but not limited to the warranty disclaimers and liability limitations set forth above, the invalid or unenforceable provision will be deemed superseded by a valid, enforceable provision that most closely matches the intent of the original provision and the remainder of the agreement shall remain in full force and effect.
