Our Barefoot® saddle pads always include a set of foam and/or rubber inlays that slide into a Velcro closed pocket on the underside of the pad. The following sets are available individually to replace worn ones, or as shims in addition to the ones in use. They first three options are easily trimmed using a sharp pair of scissors.
All inserts are sold in pairs.
PU-Foam Inlays C$ 34
Soft, pressure absorbents and flexible. They are used to even out pressure points, and any unevenness along the horse’s back (i.e. sebaceous glands in the skin). Thickness: 15 mm
Rubber Foam Inlays C$ 37
Quite firm, pressure absorbent, and yielding just slightly. Excellent option for more pressure distributing qualities (i.e. heavier rider), or can be cut and used as sectional shims to help re-position the saddle, i.e. lifting it either in the front or back to sits level on the horse. Example: Horses with very broad shoulders or prominent withers should use additional shims in the back part of the pad. Horses that are higher in the croup need additional shims in the front. Memory Foam Inlays C$ 73
Our recommendation for more challenging saddle positions, and for riders spending longer periods of time in the saddle. Also suitable for heavier riders, or more sensitive horses. Extremely shock-absorbing, pressure distributing, and pliable. Excellent to level out any irregularities. Memory foam is long lasting, and the material molds to both rider and horse while returning to its original shape when the pressure is removed. Thickness: 20 mm.
Heavy Foam Inlays C$ 119
Heavy duty insert developed for maximum padding. They are not only shock absorbent but also distribute weight evenly through a polyurethane plate core that is enclosed by the cellular rubber. The edges of the inserts are rounded and tapered to prevent the developing of pressure ridges on the horse, even on long rides. These inserts are recommended for long distance riders, and also for pressure sensitive horses that have previously suffered from saddle related pressure sores. Thickness: 20 mm
